Check a semen analysis against the WHO 2021 reference limits: volume, concentration, total count, motility, vitality and morphology.
Result
How to use this tool
Enter the ejaculate volume in mL and the sperm concentration in million/mL.
Enter progressive and total motility percentages, plus normal morphology.
Add vitality under Advanced options if it was measured.
Read the total count and which parameters fall below the WHO reference limits.
Formula & worked example
Volume 2.0 mL at 50 million/mL gives a total count of 100 million, above the WHO lower limit of 39 million.

Reference limits are population percentiles, not fertility cut-offs, and a single sample varies with abstinence, illness, heat and lab method. This is an educational comparison, not a fertility diagnosis. This tool is for education only and is not medical advice. Talk to a clinician about any result that worries you, and never change treatment because of a calculator result.
Frequently asked questions
Volume ≥ 1.4 mL, concentration ≥ 16 million/mL, total count ≥ 39 million, progressive motility ≥ 30%, total motility ≥ 42%, vitality ≥ 54% and normal morphology ≥ 4%.
No. These are 5th-percentile values from fertile men, so about 5% of fertile men fall below any one limit. Clinicians usually repeat the test before drawing conclusions.
Progressive motility counts sperm swimming forward; total motility also includes sperm twitching in place. Both matter, and progressive motility is the stricter measure.
Vitality (the share of live sperm) is not always measured. When it is, 54% or more live sperm is the reference limit.
Yes. WHO recommends 2–7 days of abstinence before a sample; shorter or longer abstinence shifts volume and concentration.
