How to use this tool

1
Enter your height

Type your height in cm, metres, inches or feet and inches. Switching units converts your number automatically, so a height calculator result in cm and in feet and inches is always the same height — never a new measurement.

2
Read every conversion

Your height in cm, metres, total inches and feet plus inches appears at once, so you can fill in any form — medical, passport, clothing or sports — without a second height in cm conversion.

3
Predict a child's adult height (optional)

Open Advanced, pick boy or girl, and enter both parents' heights. This height predictor uses the mid-parental method doctors use for a first estimate.

4
Copy or share it

Copy your conversions, or share the calculator with anyone stuck converting a height chart figure.

Formula & worked example

1 inch = 2.54 cm exactly · Feet + inches to cm: (feet × 12 + inches) × 2.54 · Mid-parental height: boys (father + mother + 13) ÷ 2, girls (father + mother − 13) ÷ 2, all in cm

Worked example: 175 cm ÷ 2.54 = 68.9 inches = 5 ft 8.9 in, and 175 cm = 1.75 m. Predicted adult height example: a father of 180 cm and a mother of 165 cm give a boy (180 + 165 + 13) ÷ 2 = 179 cm (likely range 169–189 cm) and a girl (180 + 165 − 13) ÷ 2 = 166 cm (likely range 156–176 cm).

Conversions are exact, but predicted adult height is only an estimate. The mid-parental method explains roughly half the variation in adult height; nutrition, sleep, illness, puberty timing and the many genes beyond the parents' own heights all move the final result. Most children finish within about ±10 cm of the estimate, but some land outside it and are perfectly healthy. A prediction is never a diagnosis — if a child's growth worries you, a paediatrician's growth-chart review is the right step.

Frequently asked questions

Divide cm by 2.54 to get total inches, then divide by 12: the whole number is feet and the remainder is inches. For example, 175 cm ÷ 2.54 = 68.9 inches = 5 ft 8.9 in. This calculator does it instantly in both directions.

A height predictor estimates a child's eventual adult height, usually from the parents' heights. The standard clinical method is the mid-parental formula: average the parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. Most children finish within about ±10 cm of that estimate, but it cannot account for every gene, diet or health factor, so treat it as a guide, not a promise.

5 ft 9 in = 69 inches × 2.54 = 175.3 cm. As a rule of thumb, 5 ft = 152.4 cm and each extra inch adds 2.54 cm.

Most of the world measures height in cm, while the US and UK commonly use feet and inches — the height itself is identical, only the unit changes. Growth charts also differ because they are built from different populations, so a percentile on one country's chart does not transfer exactly to another's.

Yes — any length converts the same way. Enter a desk height, doorway or shelf height in cm or inches and you get every unit back, which is handy when furniture specs mix metric and imperial units.
