How to use this tool

1
Measure diameter

Measure the bin diameter in feet.

2
Enter wall height

Enter the straight-wall height, excluding the roof.

3
Add roof height

If the roof is a cone, enter its height; otherwise leave zero.

4
Read capacity

Volume, bushels and wheat tonnage appear instantly.

Formula & worked example

Volume = cylinder (πr² × wall) + roof cone (πr² × roof ÷ 3); bushels = volume ÷ 1.2445.

A 30 ft diameter bin with 20 ft walls holds about 11,360 bushels.

Limitations — read this before you rely on it

Geometric capacity only. Usable storage is lower once floors, cones, freeboard and grain behaviour are allowed for.

Frequently asked questions

1 bushel = 1.2445 cubic feet (2150.42 cubic inches).

Aeration floors, cone bottoms, freeboard and the grain heap shape all reduce fill.

No, bushels are volume. It changes weight: wheat 60 lb, corn 56 lb per bushel.

Leave roof height at zero and the tool counts only the cylinder.

No. Leave headspace for aeration and safe access.
